20 Photos of Drunk Japanese People Show The Dark Side Of Alcohol

Few people have seen the alternative view of Japanese culture provided by this remarkable photo collection.

Japan’s population may enjoy one of the lowest rates of crime and the highest life expectancy in the world, but that doesn’t mean they can’t have a good time. The photos that follow, which were taken by Lee Chapman, demonstrate this.

According to Bored Panda, Chapman, a Manchester-born British photographer, created the Tokyo Times. He came in 1998 with the intention of staying “a year or two,” but he never did.

The fascinating selection of photos that follow show a side of Japan that few of us have seen. Most people picture sushi, creative ideas, and Hello Kitty when considering a trip to the country. The photos of inebriated excess that follow provide a more sobering and genuine truth that can completely change your perspective.

Apparently, people from other countries enjoy having a good time as well. But the show also highlights the risks associated with binge drinking. Alcohol can alter a person’s demeanor and even cause death through alcohol poisoning, unlike marijuana which is more likely to give one the “munchies” and make them reflect on life. The following series merits thought and reflection because one is lawful in most countries and the other is illegal.
